Another odd thing I've seen on DA are people who exclaim on their profiles "STOP THANKING ME FOR FAVS!" or even, " I DON'T WANT MY PROFILE FULL OF THANK YOUS!" or, "COMMENTS LIKE 'COOL' ARE NOT HELPFUL!"
...first of all, a comment MUST be 'helpful' in order for it to have relevance or meaning? But that's another thing; how do you define 'helpful' then? If you want an actual critique, okay, ask for it, and post the box for it, but otherwise, why would you dislike it when someone happens by, and just says your work is 'cool'? I understand there are artists who want more in-depth analyses of their work, but not everyone wants to give them. So, it's better to say nothing then, instead? Do you really demand and expect that everyone basically write you a poem or something based on how great your art is, or why it's so flawless? Because it's not flawless. This sort of reminds of that guy I got into a rare argument with, in which he declared that comments like that are indeed completely meaningless, and are only made as an attempt to 'appeal to the artist;' people don't make comments like that out of sincerity, oh absolutely not. Everyone knows that.
Why would you demand people stop thanking you for favoriting something though? Isn't it nice, as well as polite and courteous, that someone take the time to do that for you? Before you say, 'well, some people get a lot of thank you's, so...' yeah, so what? I understand not being able to take the time to reply to everything you get, although a thank you is in itself a reply to something, but I don't understand telling people to stop thanking you for expressing their gratitude. And as for people who say they don't want their profiles 'full of thank you's,' well, then what DO you want your profile full of; in-depth essays about your art? Adoration for you that is not in the form of a thank-you? Or do you simply want nothing there at all? I suppose it might be nice if DA gave better options for editing some of this stuff, I admit, and perhaps disabling profile comments would be a good option to at least have. This is especially relevant for spam instances, as well as outright hate messages and threats, which DA doesn't seem too concerned about, usually. But again, I'm talking about good comments, thank you's, that appreciative people post, and...some artists hate those, and don't want them, I guess. I gotta admit, I don't get it. Maybe all the artists like that are just the self-loathing type, and/or are just way too snobby, and only want comments from certain kinds of people. That wouldn't surprise me.
